Full-color edition"We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28Sister Marietta Hanus has lived an inspiring, brave, and faith-filled journey that is beautifully told in God at Work in My Life. Beginning her life as Beatrice, the youngest of eight children, she was taught by the Sisters of St. Francis at nearby St. Mary's School, also known as Marietta. Sister affirmed that her calling was to become a School Sister after advice from her organist, Sister Sidora, and traveled from rural Nebraska to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she began her education at the Motherhouse. Following her training, and after years of teaching, Sister took on a leadership role during the changes in the Church after Vatican II. This gave her the opportunity to travel to Europe, and she visited Communist occupied Eastern Europe where she was able to make connections with her Czech Hanus relatives. Sister then found a greater calling to become a missionary in Central America, where she worked with the Spanish and indigenous cultures during a turbulent and dangerous time for Catholic missionaries. Because of her experiences in Central America, she has been able to retain a special understanding of the Hispanic immigrant community in the United States, and has helped them in various ways. Sister's remarkable account reveals the dedication and work of the School Sisters of St. Francis both here and abroad. Come along on Sister Marietta's journey of faith and family that creates connections that cross time and borders.
