Strap on your backpack and tag along with a darling dapple dachshund (Mr. Chips) and a very smart cat, (Samuel Adams also known as Sammy) as they travel along the byways near Route 7 in western Connecticut, all the way to the Berkshires in Massachusetts. The Grand Tour begins when their owners leave for a two-week vacation, the mastermind feline decides this is the perfect opportunity for their own vacation...and to return home to the library where he spent the early years of his life, The Berkshire Athenaeum. Two musketeers off to see the world, they first come upon Blueberry Hill Farm in Kent, CT where they meet a friendly horse, a rather selfish pig, and a somewhat depressed bloodhound. Then onward to Sheffield, MA and Rip Van Winkle's Campground where they cross paths with Dolores, a duck with definite opinions, wily raccoons who are the gourmands of the campground, and a friendly yellow lab named Rockwell who invites them to this home in Stockbridge...where they find themselves visiting The Red Lion Inn, dining in a private supper club (for cats and dogs) called Katnip & Bonz, meeting Ziggy, a dachshund who is All Business, and being introduced to a brilliant yellow budgie named Tweety Bird. Then they're off to visit The Mount and Tanglewood in Lenox, MA, where they spend the night in the woods...a dark and scary night. The last lap of their journey brings them to Henny Penny Farm and a chicken coop managed by Mrs. Cluck and Mrs. Hunt-n-Peck. Some of the other farm residents include Sir Lancelot (a peacock), a family of white rabbits...and a most unwelcome visitor. As they head to Pittsfield, the moment that has loomed throughout the Grand Tour-the decision-is upon them. Will Sammy choose to stay at the Berkshire Athenaeum or return to Number Thirteen Rabbit Hill Road? For Mr. Chips, Sammy's decision means everything. The Fantastic Tails of Sammy and Mr. Chips will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
