The Shimmering Secret

Hu Mei sat on a low sagging branch of the giant tree playing peek-a-boo with her butterfly friend. A soft current of air wove the willow's finger-like leaves into a lacy green cocoon that hid almost all of Hu Mei. Only her tiny legs could be seen, dangling like empty swings in the breeze. She looked up and there was Wang Fu, the village's mean boy who was always in a bad mood. When he reaches for the butterfly, Hu Mei's mouth makes a big O, trying to cry out "NO!" A puff of whisper was all that came out. Wang Fu did not hear it, but the butterfly did and it slipped out of Wang Fu's greedy hands.
