Dylan's life is derailed at the tender age of three when he is orphaned by the untimely and violent deaths of his parents, Trevor and Grace. Even though he is taken in by his father's friend, Isiah, his wife, Chandra and daughter Nikki, the loss of his parents leaves him feeling isolated and abandoned. From the first day of preschool through the last day of high school, he has little desire to socialize or participate in extracurricular activities. His friends are few and far between. He's anxious to be done with school and get on with the next stage of his life. Which is what? Getting a job? Isiah, Chandra and Nikki didn't sign on to take care of him forever. Sooner or later, he has to learn to fend for himself. For Dylan, it's a quandary not easily resolved. Then comes the announcement of the Songwriter of the Year contest with all kinds of prizes and one hundred grand to the winner. The odds against winning are ten thousand to one. Dylan teams up with Truman, Maddie and Josh. They know nothing about writing a song, but feel they have nothing to lose by trying. Together they beat the odds and win first place in the Pop music category. With the contest win comes instantaneous fame, money and a lifestyle Dylan and friends didn't believe possible and aren't sure how to handle.
