For Garden Seed is a delightful and lively collection of short stories by Janice Ruth Anchell, compiled by her son, James Anchell. Sometimes painful, sometimes joyous, sometimes disturbing, the stories present a rarely seen side of the life of an American housewife during the post-WWII years. All the stories but one is based on actual events, though they have been greatly embellished and altered by the author's fertile imagination. The remaining story was prompted by a conversation Janice overheard about being buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. All the stories were written in the 1960s. Janice's writing career came to an abrupt end with the untimely death in 1967 of her mentor, Hungarian American playwright and teacher of creative writing, Lajos Egri.
