The holistic health perspective is arguably the most prominent paradigm among healthcare professionals today. It is commonly recognized that complete health requires soundness in body, mind, and spirit. The component most often neglected in counseling and psychotherapy is the spiritual side, in which often resides the greatest void or need. The majority of Americans have a Biblical/Christian orientation; many such clients would choose a faith-based orientation, and would welcome treatment goals that include spiritual growth. Practitioners should be equipped with the tools necessary to provide that option if the client desires it. This textbook is designed for integrating traditional treatment methods with interventions that stimulate spiritual awareness, growth, and participation using a Christian perspective. However, the same methods can be employed with people of different faiths, or who prefer not to address matters of faith/spirituality. I have successfully employed these techniques in my practice for twenty years and taught them to practitioners for CEU credit as well. This textbook provides the supporting research, techniques, interventions, and scriptures for use by any healthcare professional, as well as the clergy and others that would teach Christian principles to those in need of counseling and guidance.
