Against her will, fourteen year old Skyler is sent to stay with her grandmother for the summer. Skyler soon discovers this woman is more than just a quirky nature lover. Her backyard is an amazing habitat for native plants and wildlife, but its unkempt appearance puts her at odds with the neighbors. What starts out as a boring summer takes strange and intriguing turns for Skyler as she becomes romantically involved with the neighbor's son, while also becoming a pawn in her grandmother's war with his father. Her grandmother's passion to protect the native wildlife from the overuse of pesticides and other destructive practices drives her to commit an unthinkable act, and Skyler is forced to make a heart wrenching decision.
