Matt Davis, a 23 year old graduate from UCLA with degreed in Criminal Justice. Matt's parents have paid for all of his schooling and he has never had to work a day in his life.After his final day, he goes home and announces that he wants to go back for his Masters Degree and is shocked when his parents tell him he needs to find a job. Matt is smarter than his parents, so he gets on the internet and looks for police openings across the U.S.Cincinnati, Ohio is hiring police officers and his parents offer to pay his expenses to take the testing.On his first night in Cincinnati, Matt walks down to a park located on the Ohio River and, while returning to his hotel, he witnesses a murder. The reader gets an insight into the complex testing process , to become an urban American police officer as he takes the written test, polygraph examination, physical agility, physical, psychological evaluation and oral board.While he returns to California to await the results, Cincinnati Police Homicide investigators are actively working the death investigation. Matt waits for the arrival of the postman each day until he finally receives a letter with a conditional offer of employment as a Cincinnati Police Officer.He moves to Cincinnati and starts the Police Academy. The reader gets to attend the intensive training with him until his graduation. Matt is assigned to a training officer and learns about the realities of police work in a "trial by fire" situation. An event ends the training and he is forced to return to California for a family emergency. When that situation resolves, he returns to Cincinnati and completes his field training becoming a full-fledged Cincinnati cop.He experiences the pitfalls of a career in law enforcement, ultimately being charged with s Federal Crime in a deadly confrontation with a suspect. During the period of his suspension, he attends law school and marries a police officer who he attended the police academy with.The ending of the work is explosive with a major unexpected twist.
