Who 'doctors' the doctors? Medically retired clinical psychologist, William P. Hyneezitzs exhibits no discernable signs of having survived an astonishing life. But make no mistake, Dr. Hyneezitzs yokes a bewitching tale on his soft shoulders. The doctor's wife, BellaRae-a semi-retired psychiatrist, seems to be the only person who can keep 'Pops' (the name she and their children affectionately call William) focused enough to stay on track. Unfortunately, Pops holds fast, or can't let go of a terribly disabling addiction. He obsessively wallows in the curiously strange and horribly hideous things he has observed and experienced. His self-afflicted torments suffer him an aggrandized state of martyr heroism. At least in his own mind. While he gets mentally overwhelmed with the good, the bad and the ugly memories he insanely refuses to let go of, BellaRae demonstrates a strong woman's ability to keep the ones she loves safe and secure by bringing him back into reality, no matter how far he lets his saturated thinking steal him away. From their first unusual date back in 1976 Berkeley, California through New York in the 1980's, to the small quiet town of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; BellaRae is the steel that keeps this skyscraper sturdy. William recklessly slips in and out of the pains and pleasures of his past. In fact, the doctor knows better than to romanticize the nasty cruelties he has witnessed as a professional. Not only does he risk developing into the monsters he fears most, but he could easily lose his loose grip on reality and become a patient himself. One paramount lesson Dr. Hyneezitzs humbly learns, is even the slightest nuance of harm caused toward another can, and will, derange and mock the life of the offender. Also included are two short stories: Lost at the Bar: Confessions of the Drunk and Stupid; and, BellaRae: Quiet Please, Psychedelic Session in Progress.
