Lucy Ladybug: The Ladybug's Lament

An illustrated children's book about Lucy, a ladybug who does not want to be short and round. She wants to have a waist like a wasp. She meets Wanda Walkingstick, Bridgette Butterfly, and the Ant People who give her advice. She tries wacky diets and becomes more and more unhappy. While Lucy is on her diet the garden suffers and the tomatoes have aphids. They will die if the pest are not controlled. Through encounters with Johnny, the young gardener, Miss Melanie, his teacher and Deva Sophia, a fairy-like girl who is invisible to humans, Lucy learns that she is beautiful just the way she is and that by eating her favorite healthy food she contributes to the health and balance of the garden. After the story there is a section with ladybug and gardening info.
