In her culture I was "un etranger" And though between us few words were spoken, Surprisingly, I fell in love with her And the silence between us was broken. Our looks of longing and fascination Which were e'er so innocent and discreet, Yet, could not disguise our youthful passion, Nor the tender sighs that were so sweet. But, all too soon, the ship's whistle blew And, with promises to write, we parted As I was off to explore places anew, Though now love-forlorned and so sad-hearted. Love travels like the wind with no passport, E'er greeted warmly by an open heart.
